Sisters with blisters
by Steven Hartman on Sunday 23 November 2008 - 10:50:27

Sisters were doing it for themselves in full force on Saturday at the 94.2 Jacaranda FM ‘Sisters with blisters’ walk. This is the 3rd year that the walk has been held in Bryanston in order to raise funds and awareness against woman and child abuse in South Africa. Participants took to the streets in stilettos, pumps, boots and slops all in the aim to represent the ‘a little bit of pain for a lot of gain’ slogan.

In true Shared Viz style 22 of us donned pink t-shirts, pink feather boas and aqua shoes and dive booties that ensured a few blisters that were well worth it considering the cause. The scuba divas hit the tar mac in a cloud of pink feathers and with smiles from ear to ear we were truly proud that our dive club was there to be noticed, and noticed we really were! We have, however, one very famous puppy to thank; Nikki was a true star, allowing the endless photographers and news crews to film her from all angles and stood with her boa blowing in the breeze while they snapped and ooh and ahhed. What a good dog! There was a general mood of good fun and high spirits with everyone dressing up in the weirdest and most wonderful, all doing there little bit to make a difference.

Shared viz celebrated the day further in honouring a true South African tradition, braai vleis and swimming pools, rugby and beer! Isn’t it tough living in a country were people give so freely of themselves? I say ‘yay’ to it all and thank goodness for Saturdays in Sunny South Africa! We’ll be back next near, even bigger, even better and hopefully (for obvious reasons on my part) even pinker!
